Commissioning a piece of furniture is a highly personal process. It is an opportunity for my clients to be involved in the creation of their environment. Each custom piece is handcrafted with your lifestyle, character, possibly even memories, in mind. I work very closely with my customers to join my creativity and your individual needs. I then work with fabricators to design and construct each project from the finest materials. Let me create a handmade piece for your home that is as distinct and individual as you are.
Having been an artist working alone in my studio on my own ideas, I have found that it is much more fulfilling working with clients. Often, I find that people hire me because they have an idea for a piece while telling me they are not artistic. Working together I discover, and thus they discover that, indeed, they are quite artistic. Together we co-create a piece of furniture that is an art piece.
Any material you can imagine could be integrated into a piece. Past furniture has included a 5 foot photograph, syndacrete (lightweight concrete), acrylic, abalone shell, glass, bronze, all different kinds of metal, coral, children's' toys, and of course upholstery and any species of wood.
Blair Townsend Studio works with the very best craftsmen to ensure that each piece comes out exactly as envisioned. My studio has a 17 year relationship with my woodworker and have been working with my steel fabricator for 10 years. They will work to master whatever design terrain is necessary to complete a project.
“When I bought my home, I wanted furnishings representative of my island heritage. The amazing thing was how unique to my personality her ideas were. What an astonishing, creative designer! I wholeheartedly recommend Blair Townsend Studio for special creations.”
”When we hired Blair, we didn't really know what we wanted -- a pedestal? Something that would showcase the piece without detracting from the art. We came to Blair for ideas and what she came back with was phenomenal. We never stop getting complements on the sculpture and the stand. Blair’s vision and openness to using any material is refreshing and so unique.”
